Kayla Schmitz

Kayla Schmitz

Executive Director

Kayla Schmitz is the Executive Director of PIVOT, where she leads communications, marketing, grant development, and day-to-day operations. Her PIVOT Process certification and a degree in psychology give her a well-rounded approach to leadership.

Kayla's path to PIVOT began as a client, and her rebuilding experience shaped her decision to join the organization, first as Director of Client Services before stepping into her current role. Her professional background includes business development, education, and service on the DCCNS School Board in Davis, CA.

She also volunteers as a patient advocate for young adult cancer survivors, contributing to the design of a new cancer center in Chicago, while advocating for policy change and improved patient care. Her work in the cancer world led her to direct the documentary VINCIBLE, now part of medical school curricula nationwide.

Across every role, she has kept community and people at the center of her work, and continues to focus on growing PIVOT's reach so more people can find the same kind of restart she did.

Will Martindale

Will Martindale

Chief Financial Officer

Will has been part of PIVOT since before it was a nonprofit, and he helped carry it through that change. As CFO, he looks after the finances and much of what runs behind the scenes. He spent years building technology products alongside engineering teams, and he stays hands-on with new tools wherever they can serve the mission.

For Will, the heart of it is the people. Years of listening to their stories, and years around this team, have changed him as much as anything he has built. What matters most to him is watching someone step back into their life with changes that are genuinely theirs.

AJ Ferreira

AJ Ferreira

Retreat Manager · The Glass House

AJ serves as Retreat Manager at The Glass House, bringing more than a decade of experience in relationship coaching, behavioral health, recovery, and transformational retreat work.

AJ's connection to PIVOT began personally, as one of its first virtual clients. The experience meant so much to him that he wanted to become part of the work himself, eventually joining the team and helping support PIVOT's growth into the nonprofit organization it is today.

Beyond overseeing the retreat property, logistics, and daily operations, AJ facilitates retreats and works closely with individuals, couples, and families throughout their experience. His background also includes years in addiction treatment, outdoor experiential programming, personal training, and health and wellness coaching.

What matters most to AJ is creating an environment where people feel welcomed and cared for from the moment they arrive. He believes the space people walk into matters, and takes pride in making The Glass House feel safe and intentional so guests can focus fully on the work they came to do.
